What's the difference between all of the app and site types?

There are four site types for you to choose from when launching a Power Promos sweepstakes. Select the channel that will best serve your campaign goals and engage your community.

Facebook Page (Tab) App

A Page App loads within a tab on your Facebook Page. This is a popular option as it is one less click for users to access from your Page than a Canvas App. And with the launch of Timeline new Page Apps are no longer confined to a smaller size than Canvas Apps. See a demo.

User flow:

Users may access the sweepstakes directly on your Facebook Page by clicking the sweepstakes icon from the list of apps. You can also send users directly to the sweepstakes app through Facebook ads or other online posts and advertisements.

  1. User arrives on your Facebook Page and clicks on the sweepstakes icon from the list of apps.
  2. In sweepstakes which are fan-gated, non-fans see a 'Like us to proceed' graphic.
  3. Once they Like your Page, if they are an existing fan, or if you have chosen not to fan-gate, then they are presented with the promotion home page directly within the tab.

Specs:

  • Facebook Page (Tab) App is 760 pixels wide on the 810 pixels wide Facebook Apps frame (no Facebook ads) (see specific design specs within Strutta application set up "Look & Feel" section of your Sweepstakes Builder)
  • Users may access the app directly on your Facebook Page (through a tab)
  • Create a custom Facebook App to define app permissions (PRO package feature)
  • No custom URL (URL is always your Facebook Page URL followed by a numerical app ID)
  • Launch on multiple Facebook Pages (PRO package feature)
  • Optimized for viewing and interaction on mobile devices

Facebook Canvas App

A Canvas App is so named because the app loads on a page within Facebook (the Canvas Page) which essentially acts as a blank canvas for your application. The app itself looks and functions the same as a Page App but is accessed through the canvas URL (see user flow below). This is a good option if you’re looking to create a custom Facebook app URL (PRO Package feature). See a demo.

The biggest difference between the Canvas App and Page App is that the Canvas App is one click further removed from your page.

User flow:

From your Facebook Page, if you use a promotional tab then users must click through this tab graphic to access the sweepstakes (i.e., it is one more click away for a user then a Page App). You can bypass the promotional graphic by sending users directly to the Canvas Page through Facebook ads or other online posts and advertisements using the direct URL.

  1. User arrives on Facebook Page and clicks on the sweepstakes icon from the list of apps.
  2. In sweepstakes which are fan-gated, non-fans see a 'Like us to proceed' graphic.
  3. Once they Like your Page, if they are an existing fan, or if you have chosen not to fan-gate, then they are presented with the promotional graphic for fans which provides a link into the sweepstakes.
  4. This graphic provides a link to the canvas page, where they then can enter the sweepstakes.

Specs:

  • Facebook Canvas App is 760 pixels wide which fills the Facebook frame (Facebook ads line the right column) (see specific design specs within Strutta application set up "Look & Feel" section of your Sweepstakes Builder)
  • Users must click through a promotional image or HTML tab on your Facebook Page to access the app
  • Create a custom Facebook App to define app permissions (PRO package feature)
  • Set a custom app URL (PRO package feature)
  • Launch on multiple Facebook Pages (PRO package feature - requires custom app)
  • Optimized for viewing and interaction on mobile devices

Standalone Microsite

Launch a free-standing branded promotion site. This option is perfect if you’re looking to design a unique user experience outside of Facebook, set a custom URL (PRO Package feature) and allow users to access your promotion on a mobile device. See a demo

User flow:

Users visit the sweepstakes through the direct URL, through a promotional graphic on your Facebook Page (by clicking the sweepstakes icon from the list of apps), through Facebook ads or other online posts and advertisements.

  • Standalone Microsite is 720 pixels wide with unlimited background width (see specific design specs within Strutta application set up "Look & Feel" section in your Sweepstakes Builder)
